10 THINGS THE CHURCH I GREW UP IN TAUGHT THAT I NEVER BELIEVED

10. People who smoke cigarettes and use tobacco products are going to hell

9. The Bible forbids the use of alcohol for personal enjoyment

8. People who commit suicide or die drunk automatically go to hell

7. Christians should uphold / promote capital punishment

6. Manifest Destiny, the Republican party is the Christian party,  and if a soldier dies for America in war, they automatically go to heaven. Pacifists are heretics and not Christians at all. Democrats are not Christians and no true Christian would be a Democrat

5. Women are to be subordinate to ALL men - not just their husbands - because they are incapable of higher thinking, are physically weaker, have smaller brains, and they were deceived in the garden of Eden--ate of the forbidden fruit first, caused Adam to sin--thus they are the cause of the fall of the human race into sin and must be suppressed

4. The Brown races are inferior - although there might be exceptions...but those are few

3. Dr Martin Luther King was a Communist and an anarchist. His ministerial credentials were fake and a ruse to trick people. He was not in any way a Christian

2. Going to the movies, card playing, dancing, wanting to go to college and being in the arts were sinful and prideful desires

1. Every other church than ours was wrong, and probably UNSAVED, because they did not have the "Holy-Ghost." Only our church had the Holy-Ghost. If you didn't speak in tongues you didn't have the HOLY-GHOST--you were an inferior Christian--second class at best.

There are many more absurdities taught in the church of my childhood. I'll post some of those later. O, yes, one of the members of our church was also a "Flat-earther" and no one ever tried to rebut him.

So--I have had a lot to overcome--just like many of you.
