This isn't just in politics or religion, it's seen the same in sports, economics, products, cuisine, fashion, gardening . . . everything. Why do we have opinions at all? The adage: "A person convinced against their will is of the same opinion still." is a pretty common experience for us all. Debates and arguments do not change people's minds , and many people do not engage in conversations because of this. That does not mean people don't change their minds. There are very strong examples of people "flipping" from one set of views to another. It has and it does happen, but there must be a substantial existential experience to produce it. FIVE OFFICERS LOST THEIR LIVES Let everyone be honest -- THIS is a tremendous and shameful tragedy. The people who killed these officers are some of the first to cry loudest and most vehemently about rioters in our country not being brought to justice. I am ashamed of the citizens who do things like this, and even more ashamed of a President who incites it, justifies it, and then lets people like this out of prison. I am baffled by how any American can excuse such violence or can rejoice that any leader would let them go Scott free. When will Americans come to their senses? RE: the poster about being a sociopath I was thinking about the complaint that the good bishop's comments were directed to the president while she was in the pulpit and such things have no place in that meeting. She should have had the decency to speak to him privately. Well - that notion is false BECAUSE - if she was witnessing--in real time--one of the presidents men harming someone IN the back of the cathedral--while she was addressing the public--she would absolutely have spoken up to intervene and interrupt the assault...she would have defended them on the spot, and no doubt would have condemned the inappropriateness of the abuse. Not to do so would be VERY strange indeed, and any witnesses would condemn her for not defending the person being assaulted.
